Larry (“Wire”) Weldon Hoard, 72, passed away peacefully at his home, on Sunday, August 6, surrounded by his 3 loving children and 2 remaining siblings.
Larry was born in Coldwater, MI on March 5, 1951. He was the second of five children to Cleo and LaVallo (Alger) Hoard. He grew up on a small farm, raising animals and growing vegetables. From his happy but hard childhood, Larry developed his strong work ethic. He and his older brother Butch developed a love for auto mechanics and found their true passion is drag racing. This passion was passed down to Larry’s son, nephews, and grandsons. He especially looked forward to watching his grandsons drag race on the weekends. Larry drove a semi-truck most of his life. Upon his retirement, he was awarded a safe driving certificate for driving 2.5million miles without an accident. Larry was a one-of-a-kind guy, who said what he thought, and meant what he said. He told hilarious stories of his life with dramatic gestures and emphasis. “Can’t never did a thing”, was one of his favorite lines, which he learned from his mother. Larry was as tough as they get. He never backed down and would fight fiercely for who and what he loved. He most recently resided in Cadillac, MI, where he kept busy tinkering in his garage, rebuilding old Wheel Horse tractors and fishing.
Larry, was preceded in death by his wife Pamela (Donnelly) Hoard, both of his parents, brother Leland “Butch” Hoard, sister Susan “Doodle” Kosmerick, and numerous aunts and uncles.
Survivors include son: Jason Hoard (Rachel) of Coldwater, MI; daughters: Amanda Stump (Michael) of Walbridge, OH and Amy Hoard (James Estep) of Maumee, OH; sister, Mary Jean (Andrew) Ammermann of Cookeville, TN; brother, Cleo Lenny (Debbie) Hoard of Coldwater, MI; grandchildren, Carter and Marshall Hoard and Austin, Luke and Elliott Stump.
Per Larry’s request, there will be no memorial services.
